While this is not specifically a turfgrass, it forms the bulk of the non-broadleaf weed vegetation in some areas of my “lawn”. (I have recently purchased a nice house surrounded by a disaster area.)

The question I have: Will this plant ever form a dense mat if properly fertilized and watered or will it continue to only grow in clumps? Is this the kind of plant that forms a continuous root system, sucks up all the available water and nutrients in a 6 inch radius and then only sends up blades above the ground in little clumps?

Will anything kill it and leave the centipede behind? Will anything kill it period if it’s been established for many years? Do I even want to kill it? Will Centipede overtake this grass if properly cared for?Should I just kill everything and start over?

I’m facing the same issues with a dwarf mondo grass in St Augustine in full shade. At least it doesn’t spread very fast.

My approach is going to be to cut it off under the ground with a flat bladed shovel and resod the areas. Mine has done nothing but get more dense for the past 12 years. Another idea I’m toying with is to put 3rd base in the mondo and let my girls wear it away.
