bermuda in my fescue

I live in kansas. I have the nasty nativebermuda grass trying to take over my fescuelawn. What do you think of this idea: Beingsit hardly ever rains in the summer here,If I dont water the fescue, it will godormant (brown), but the bermuda will stillbe green. What if I let the fescue go dormant, then spray the green bermuda withroundup. Would it not kill my fescue and ridthe bermuda? Doesnt roundup only work on non-dormant grasses? Any other ideas??

Bermuda will also go dormant with no water. It depends on which grass type is more drought resistant this week. There may be a window of opportunity in there if the fescue goes dormant first.
How high are you mowing? If you set your mower all the way up as high as it goes, you will shade out the bermuda with that tall fescue. And bermuda must have full sun all day.

I always mow at the highest setting, andbag the clippings for disposal. I usuallyonly mow 1 time per week, so the fescuedoes end up getting pretty tall.

much better approach is to kill out the bermuda ( if that’s what you want to do) right before seeding time in the fall (september probably in your market) use roundup to kill the bermuda then seed into the bermuda, dethatching if necessary- make sure to water your lawn during dry periods.
