I live in south carolina(less than 2 years) near the coast and have a front yard of bermuda grass. I have finally begun battling weeds and researching all i can about this type of grass and maintenance. First I have been trying to find a picture of what the bermuda grass rizomes look like and the seeds….I have been battling nutsedge and am unsure also what its rizomes look like….I have been pulling out cream colored rizomes some with pink sprouts that appear to be a part of the nutsedge????? When I take a sample to professionals here everyone has a different opinion. I hope you can help….i can get a picture for all to see if needed and you tell me how to post it. Thanks…. frustrated in SC

SativaMaui, pink sprouts sound more like sedge than bermudagrass, although bermudagrass rhizomes can have some pinkishness on their tips. Also, if the leaves are highly glossy, it’s proably a sedge. Bermudagrass is pictured here in black-and-white:http://floridaturf.com/grasses/bigfive.htmland in color:https://turfgrass.com/weeds/bermuda.html
Bermudagrass leaves mostly run all up and down the aboveground stem, whereas purple nutsedge leaves all come from the belowground stem.
I am trying to get some better pictures, so if you can email a picture of your unknowns, I’ll post it here.

Thank you Phil for responding so quickly… at first I thought i was battling barn grass but now i am almost sure all my problems have been this nutsedge. I will get a sample tomorrow (I live in my yard ) and email a photo of it…also when I see pics of bermudagrass….my “type” never looks the same….I am told there are a lot of varieties….according to the lawn books I have aquired, my yard would be classified as a utility lawn (thank goodness considering the luxury grade bermuda must be a nightmare). So since I am still learning, for all I know i have more than just one type of bermuda or type of grass. I have also researched overseeding with perennial Rye and have started …. hence the trying to get rid of what weeds have resurfaced. Thank you so much for your help in this matter. Finally some where to discuss these issues! Now if we could just get rid of these dang Fireants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
