Hello, I live in North Florida and planted 3 acres of Argentia Bahia this fall which is now coming up. Unfortunatly many weeds are also coming up. I have been told that with good mowing the weeds will disappear. I would like to assist the weed control using a weed control chemical but have been told that Bahia will not accept chemical weed control very well. A person recommended 2-4D Amine. Can you comment on this or other chemical weed control for Bahia. Please note that I have planted shrubs and trees in the area also.Thanx for any helpVernon Bush

Vernon, bahiagrass is tolerant of 2,4-D and other active ingredients commonly mixed with it (MCPP or mecoprop, and dicamba). Bahiagrass is not tolerant of many other herbicides.

Mowing is very effective at weed suppression in seedling bahiagrass, and will suppress both grassy weeds and broadleaf weeds, whereas the safe herbicides such as 2,4-D will only affect the broadleaf weeds.

So I usually start with the mowing, and that takes care of the weeds.

Find out what kind of weeds they are. If they are cool-season grasses in your bahia- grass. You can use any Triazine. This will surely get rid of everything you call weeds.
