This prostrate running weed is driving me crazy. I am hoping to do enough research on it to finally put it to rest this fall and next spring. It has long roots that seem to preclude killing it by pulling. This is a Michigan yard, with mostly Kentucky Blue Grass. Frooda, the link to the weed pic is broken, so if you to want to edit the location we'll look at it, or you can email it to me at: editor@turfgrass.com Thanks, IP: Logged |

I would have never guessed that it was Bermuda grass, but it sure is isn't it. I will due some research on how to eradicate it from my blue grass yard, but any tips that you can offer (anyone can offer) I would greatly appreciate it as well. Thank you for doing the research Phil! IP: Logged |

For control, I would say use Round-up and kill the entire area where it is growing. Wait two weeks and reseed. Either that or pull it all by hand. There is no easy way to control weed grasses in a lawn short of killing everything in that immediate area. Which leaves you to reseed once it is gone. IP: Logged |

A little Update I found a product called Turflon Ester that is very expensive, but also very effective against Bermuda Grass, and best of all it did not harm my lawn in any way. IP: Logged |

Phil, the picture you posted says that bermudagrass won't invade in cold climates...isn't this Michigan yard in that climate? Also, there is a product on the market (I can't remember if it labeled "caution" or "warning") called "Prograss". It is designed to prevent the emergence of brassy weed (bermuda grass included). It has a very short window of opportunity, so the application has to be timed accurately. It is also very expensive. Good luck! IP: Logged |

FYI, here's an article on golf course management that specifically discusses bermuda grass. Looks like there's hope in managing it, but requires persistence. Good luck--and off to Home Depot I go. IP: Logged |
