I live in Teaneck, NJ. As of midsummer last year (2003) I began using a local guy who uses strictly organic lawn products. I switched because, I was not pleased with the chemical treatment and the way my lawn looked.

However this year, my lawn looks the worst it has ever been. There are clovers of all kinds growing all over the lawn as well as many brown spots. My local guy says that the brown spots are due to the tree roots. Is this true? Anyway is there any thing that I can do to get rid of these clovers? I have the worst lawn on the block.

Please help.

you're a good candidate for lawn renovation in a few weeks. use roundup to eradicate any exisiting weeds and start all over- skip the organic methods- they're just not that developed yet. if you follow normal maintenance procedures you will have a lessened need for lawn chemicals- but when you have a problem don't be afraid to use weed control and fungus control products.

Ted - what do you recommend for "Lawn Renovation"? I have the same issue in my backyard as it is covered with crabgrass, clovers and a few other types of broad leaf weeds.
