I live in Central Florida and have an ONGOING mole problem. I understand the key is to cut off their food source – grubs. But, I guess I’m doing something wrong? I apply grub control & water in thoroughly, but I am timing this application correctly. Should it be July or early August? Any suggestions would be APPRECIATED!Thanks

dontom3,Cutting off its food source is a great start. We have about 2-3 moles per year on our property. We treat most areas with grub control but cannot treat 120 acres. We utilize a method that takes some time but works. First we stomp down on the tunnels and flatten them out. Then we get two shovels and a pitch fork. We then wait……………and wait……………..until the mole starts to move. The tunnel will come up and then we got’em. Put one shovel in the tunnel about 6′ in front of him and the other a few feet behind him and pitch fork in the middle, between the shovels. The hard part is the waiting but a few cool drinks and peace and quiet will do the trick. Another way to go might be to plant a castor bean plant. They hate these plants and will avoid them at all cost. Warning: as these plants are poisionous. Ricin is made from the bean.

Good Luck………..

they eat alot more than just grubs. any grub control a homeowner could purchase would be ineffective. they have to eat their body weight in food every day, so anything you can do to disturb them will work. forget all the farmers tales you’re about to hear on this board, they don’t work. i’ve used cohibas method before, also success with electronic prongs you put in the ground- they buzz the soil, etc. traps are the most effective means of control- forget all the exlax and chewing gum stories…

oh, the good news is that there’s only about 1 per acre, so that limits your work involved.

find a king snake and put him in the hole and block him in. he will end the problem.
