What is the best fertilizer for bermuda?
I planted bermuda in my back yard last year and now long have runners everywhere. Is this the bermuda spreading? I can try to get pics if necessary.

Go heavy on the nitrogen when you are trying to thicken and establish bermuda. Your average every day lawn food has a lot of nitrogen! Once the lawn is established, use less amounts of nitrogen during the growing season. Too much nitrogen in the heat will cause excessive top growth and a lot of mowing.

bermuda spreads by “runners.” that’s how it grows. you need to soil test to determine all of your fertilizing needs, not just nitrogen- lots of equally important nutrients. you can buy quality fertilizers at a local Lesco service center, if you live in a metropolitan area.

Ted- I didn’t say “just nitrogen”…i said- “go heavy on the nitrogen”! Bermuda loves nitrogen….it just loves it Ted……so if you have a bermuda yard Ted……i suggest you go out and dump a bunch of urea on it!

urea doesn’t contain the other nutrients. the nutrients and ph affect the uptake of the N which in help turn the grass green. iron, proper mowing and watering will also help plant color. you can use a pound of “n” per month in the growing season without any problem.
