I have avoided all mole cricket problems using Triazicide and Bayer season long grub control (I am now sticking with Bayer, it has a longer working residual). You can also use Talstar (order over the internet) – I have been told it is outstanding for mole crickets – but…the key to mole crickets is TIMING. In our part of the country, you get two crops per year – spring & fall. Mole crickets get tougher as they mature. The key to control is killing young mole cricket crops during their first instars. My strongest recommendation:

Talk to your county extension agent ASAP and ask about preferred treatment dates for your area and recommended products. You will need to do a treatment ASAP to try and kill as many as possible of the fall crop of young mole crickets – or they will be a horde in the spring.

Good luck.

Try this University of Florida web page on mole crickets:

Hey everybody! I work at one of the top 5 courses in South America (Carmelo, URUGUAY) (Four Seasons Golf Club), and believe it or not, we do not have a turf specialist running the course.

Our greens are composed of Bentgrass; fairways Bermudagrass and roughs tall fescue.

The course is looking really good, except that we have a serious problem with mole crickets. I have been reading about using a nematode to infect crickets and therefore reduce the population.

Does anybody have experience in the use of nematodes to control mole cricket populations??!!!!

Advice is welcomed!

Cheers,

Andres.

Here in central FL, we spray with liquid dish soap first to bring the mole crickets closer to the surface. Then you sprinkle with insecticide crystals or whatever insecticide you use for bugs.
