I am in southern california (zone 9) and was getting ready to fill in my sidewalk with bits n pieces of my st. augustine lawn. Is it too late to do this? And is there a time/season when it is best and not best to plant/sod/plug st. augustine in general?

I’m dying to know the offcial answer to this, too. It seems to me that when the night time low temps get steadily into the high 70s or above, my St Aug in the shade stops leaping and starts sleeping. Is there a way to kick start it again?

Well, I am not an “offical” answer to anything, but I can tell you that from what I know of St. Augustine, it is an evergreen. It grows all year round.

So with that train of thought, I have never given much consideration to when I plug, though I dont tend to plug much in Dec, Jan, or Feb … and I have yet to have any problems with any of my plugs living.
