We just recently bought a house in Fuquay Varina, NC. We moved from Apex, NC. There is exactly a 10 mile difference between the 2 houses. The soil at our old house is a very hard red clay, whereas the soil at our new house is a soft sandy/dirt soil. I tried for about 3 years to establish a tall fescue lawn at the old house. I was approx. 70% successful (that is of course until the drought of 2002 hit the area). I really like the look and feel of the tall fescue as oppossed to the summer grasses. My question is, given the change in soil condition (harder to softer), will it be easier for me to grow the fescue grass at my new house, or am I going to be relegated to planting a summer grass? What type of summer grass would you recommend? If tall fescue is still a possibility, what brand do you recommend using?
