As my wife an I have not finalized our plans for landscpaing our yard other than a large section of lawn (Approx 2500 Sq. Feet) we are interetsde in plugging to save money. After the lawn is establised and we have made our other landscpaing ideas a reality, (ie., deck, swing set, patio) how hard would it be to use the already established plugged area as a place to get our own plugs to extend the area? Does this damage the lawn to much it can’t spring back with the right care? It will be about a year and a half before all the other idea can get completed, and I hate to put off what I can completed today.

I bought a turf plugger from turf-tec.com and have been taking St. Augustine plugs from good lawn areas and plugging bare areas on one foot centers. It is working very well and the plugs are barely noticeable.

Bill,

Is this the plugger you bought?

TTP1-M Turf-Tec Tubular Turf Plugger

If so, is that not a bit pricey at $120.00?

WillR, Yes, that’s the one and it is pricey, but it’s very well made and replacement blades are available. If you pay by check instead of credit card they ship for free. It’s designed for heavy use like sports turf or golf course maintenance, but I was tired of buying junk. I believe Lowe’s and similar stores carry cheaper pluggers.

And you’ve been satisfied with it?

If so, then I will check it out.

WillR, Yes, I’m very satisfied with the turf-tec plugger. It’s one of the few things I’ve ever bought that was well made and performed above and beyond my expectations. I was actually going to write them a letter to tell them so, but never got around to it. My 22 year old troy-bilt tiller is the other one that comes to mind.
