I’m getting ready to sod a south-facing back yard in northern broward, 5 miles west of the coast. The soil is completely sand as deep as I’ve dug (2 feet) with very thin organic material from existing turf and leaf litter buildup.Part of the yard is full sun from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in summer. Another part has sun and shifting shade from high (40+ ft), open-branched trees.

I just installed an irrigation system. I’m looking for sod recommendations. I sodded a small area with Palmetto and I like its appearance. A landscaper recommends seville; I don’t know if it’s available in small lots.

I have areas with existing weedy turf, others with open sand and weeds. I don’t plan to bring in topsoil. Should I rip up the existing turf by tilling and raking, or use roundup to clear. In some areas, I’m tempted to just lay the sod on top of the sparse turf areas without doing any preparation (lazy plan).Any suggestions welcome.
