Zoysia thatch

Is it OK to burn the zoysia thatch in the dormant stage ?

My father did that one fall. We tracked burnt grass into the house all winter long! Yard looked fine in the spring however.

We never did it again (Mom told Dad he would be sweeping and vacuuming the house every day!). We decided that if we were to do it again we would burn in the spring just before it begins to green up. This avoids an ugly, smelly lawn all winter.
