Zoysia prep

Can anybody tell me type of Zoysia is thin blade but dense and beautiful green? I think it’s Emerald and how would I prep my existing turf to put down about 3000 square feet to replace what is there now with minimal work and still have the new turf take? Thanks!

I don’t know what kind of soil you have(probably clay) but I’d probably take multiple samples to the county extension to see how it looks. Zoysia will grow in anything but will only grow perfect in the perfect soil.
Here in FL we have mostly sand, and even though the extension told me my soil was good it did not have enough organic material in it to stop my zoysia from drying up every few days. If i were to do it again I’d load my sand with peatmoss, alfalfa pellets, and compost down 4 inches.
Just remember this, St Aug grass dries out and dies because it doesn’t have the ability to go into dormancy when it’s deprived of water.
Zoysia when deprived of any amount of water will dry up into dormancy and look awful. But within 15 minutes of watering it’ll bounce right back to it’s lush look.

The new Empress Zoysia has a thin blade and good color.
St Augustine actually does an amazing job of surviving if you leave it a tad long so that it shades the runners.
Zoysia leaves will curl to reduce water loss but if deprived too long it too will die.
Or at least this is what the studies by the San Antonio water authority show.
