Zoysia In OK

Hello from N Oklahoma! We live on a farm with a large yard. We have baren soil from digging a basement and having dirt work done in our yard. The soil has not grown much in 2 years. We have heard both good and bad about Meyer Zoysia, but decided to give the plugs a try. Any advice on how to begin? Do we need to fertilize the baren soil and till and/or water it before the plugs come or what? Part of the land is on a slope, too. If you have established Meyer Zoysia, can you give me the pros and cons? Thanks in advance for anything you can share on this! Dana

Zoysia is very slow growing, sod is better than plugs, but I love our Meyers Zoysia yard. It’s been down only 5 weeks and it looks like an established yard. I chose zoysia because my yard has areas that are full sun all day, and then areas right next to them that are in full shade after 10am. I didn’t want two types of grass unless I had to. I’m really impressed with it’s ability to adapt to the different conditions.
