Zoysia browning

Location: MiamiBeach on Biscayne Bay, West facing. Two years ago I used to cut my (emerald)? zoysia every three days. It looked as if a thick green carpet had been laid out. Then we had three hurricanes and every rock and dock from Biscayne bay ended up on my lawn. I couldn’t cut it without knicking the blades in my sensitive mower.

I let it grow thinking I would replace it in the fall. It mounded beautifully and now looks like a Japanese moss garden. I haven’t cut it in two years.

Large patches of it are now browning (started around January). Some other posts recommended “cornmeal”; others, nitrogen for similar problems.

Any suggestions?

Without more information I have two suggestions:1. Take a sample and a photo to your local county agent. They enjoy helping homeowners. This is the best suggestion.

2. Alternatively, spray it for billbugs, wait 1-2 days and spray it for fungus. If the problem is billbugs you will need to fight them for about 2 years to get the adults, larva, and eggs.

Good luck!

Alex
