Hi everyone, I am in need of some help . I just soded my lawn a few month ago with a St. Augustine/Floritam type of grass. I have since put a weed and feed on it twice and last being a few weeks back . It now is getting a yellowing of the leaves on the grass in most parts of the lawn and it seems not to be growing as fast as I feel it should be.How can I get it to green up and fill out ?

Richard,Well, How are you? Sounds like you may be in a little trouble.Depending on your location it has been quite hot, the turf being only a few months old and drought stress if you are in the Florida Area. You may have made a boo boo.I say your turf was to young to do a weed & feed application. But what is done is done!OK is the blade completely yellow. Or does it have any discolorations like lesions, spotting, bruising, O heck dots on it. If so you could be facing a fungal problem. If not and the solid yellow blades turn to brown quickly there is trouble. This very well can be a herbicide burn. Atrazine on a new weak sod, in the hot days, possible drought stressed will cause those symptoms. This will not be able to be fixed easily. Even Activated Charcoal wont work its been down to long. But lets say that’s not the case. Get something organic like 4-6-4 Sustaine I don’t like 6-2-0 because it has no potash.(K is King.)This is light enough not to cause you any problems. Get yourself some Iron Sulfate and apply about 5 to 8 oz per 1000 SF. Also Put down a Wetting Agent. By now you should be down to twice a week watering if your not on restrictions at approx 45 min a zone on isolating heads 30 min on mist heads. This will give you color. Then stay on a good 1 to 1 fertilizer (Example 18-0-18) program increasing “K” Potash before winter. Let me know how it goes. Burlap_Etc
