My lawn (backyard) consists of a dwarf fescue and bluegrass laid from sod over a year ago. I’ve been deligent on the water and fertilizer and no pets so it’s looking good. However, the other day I found (and this sounds funny but) what looked like foamy yellow vomit similar to foam from a can. I thought some animal got back there inside my fence(eventhough it would seem to much for a cat). 3 Days later I found another area no where near the first. This was along my patio and didn’t look like the shape of vomit but still had the texture. HELP, is this just me? Is this a grass issue? Any help would be appreciated.

sounds like a slime mold. one of many types (they come in all shapes and colors).
no worries. turf may yellow as the fungus is preventing the plant from getting sun, but not a real disease, and rarely causes any damage.
or you could always ask the dog?

I found the same type of substance last night in one of my plant beds … yellow & foamy. This morning it appears to have doubled in size. What can I do to get rid of it? Will this harm my outside animals?

We usually see this associated with new mulch. However, usually not a killer just a conversation piece.

just scrape it off- try a general purpose fungicide

I have stange bright yellow mold? or fungus? Growing in spots on my lawn. Looks like foam insulation. I at first thought it was animal vomit. But I could almost see it grow. Anyone know what cause it, and how I can get rid of it?

20lbs of corn meal per 1000sqft should do the trick…

I have this fungus growing in the mulch surrounding a play structure in my backyard. One area showed up last week forming an irregular area of about 12-18 inches. I removed it the next day, and about a week later another 5 or 6 patches appreared in completely different areas. I am concerned this fungus, even if not visible, could be harmful to children as could a fungicide to treat it. Does anyone know the name of this fungus, so I can research it further to see how I can get rid of it withour “poisoning” the play area?

Helen,
There are tens of thousands of fungi that work to break down organic matter in our world. Most of which we know little about(alot are not even named or catagorized). One thing is for sure, a vast majority are not harmful unless ingested, either whole or in part, or spores inhaled. My idea would be to show the kids, maybe take some pictures if they look photographable, and make it a learning experience. Teach the kids not to eat anything that comes from outside and enjoy the natural process that makes big things little again. then rake,or water them away.
