Why is my St. Augustine dying

We built our house in South Louisiana 7 years ago. We sodded the yard in St. Augustine. I have weed and feeded every year, however, in the winter these aggressive weeds grow and I am losing my St. Augustine. Some people said to mow the grass higher, some said to fertilize. What is happening? How can I stop the process and save my St. Augustine?

fertilize the st. augustine aggressively ( say , once a month) during the growing, warm weather months from march thru august. provided that you have enough st. aug. left this will help. you may have damaged the st. aug. depending upon the timing of the weed and feed- if your formulation has 24d in it, it is damaging to the st. aug. after the lawn improves you will just need to spot treat for weeds using a liquid during the cooler months- not the granular weed and feed. you may have to resod
