Why has my fescue died?

I would greatly appreciate if someone could give me some advise concerning my lawn.Last December we moved into a new home in South Carolina. The builder started mylawn with fescue and rye in November. I did have a soil test performed through Clemson, and the test showed that lime was not needed at the time. I fertilized in spring. The condition of the lawn in late summer was satisfactory considering the amount of rainthis year. In early September I aerated and reseeded with Rebel 3 at about 1/2 to 3/4 therecommended rate, and fertilized with starter fertilizer at the recommended rate. The lawn began to fill in good, but after the one warm spell (90’s for a week) the new grass stopped growing the original grass receded. The old grass now only shows a greennub above the root. There is now about 1/4 of thatch, but I believe this amount to be beneficial. The lawn now has the appearance of post winter. I did read about brown patch disease, but my lawn was affected all over. I also have heard of worms eating the grass down to a nub, but I didn’t notice a “wave” of destruction moving across the lawn. Of course, the ground has been extremely wet for the last few weeks, which I’m notsure if it is a bad thing or not. Most of the ground has decent drainage and good soil.Should I aerate and reseed again? Should I lime for the heck of it?Should I be patient and risk not having a lawn next year?

Sounds like Armyworms. They eat the fescue, leave the weeds. We have had a huge problems with them here in my part of NC.
