Which Zoysia is it?

I recall having zoysia in our yard in west central Alabama. It was very fine bladed and prickly. It would turn a straw color in a summer drought (if not watered) and same in winter. Zero weeds grew in it. The yard was established in 1958. The grass was not extremely dark green that I recall. Does this sound like emerald or matrella? I know it is not amazoy or toro or any of the wide bladed zoysias. The only other thing I can add is that I planted 6-8 pieces (6″x8″ roughtly) on a 1/4 acre field and about 20 years later the field was 90% zoysia with mowing only (no weed killer/fertilizer etc).Any guesses will be appreciated.

Lex, it sounds like Emerald, which tends to be on the yellowish, while Zoysia matrella (there are potentially several varieties) is more dark green like Amazoy (a synonym for Z-52 or Meyer).
