When can I re-sod?

I have two large pecan trees. The St Augustine grass has died off under both trees in the past few years. I believe this is due to lack of sun, and the soil has become very compacted. I have had the trees trimmed and the soil tilled. Is September too late to resod this area? Or suould I wait until next spring. I live in the Dallas Texas area.

You should be ok putting sod down if you do it within the next week at the latest, but the time to sod St Augustine in North Texas is getting marginal. Chances are, you will not get a killing freeze before mid-November and the roots should be well established by then.
