What pre-emergent should I use

I live in central FL with a St Augustine floritam lawn. Last year the crabgrass from my neighbors lawn found its way into my lawn around the borders. I hope to begin treating my lawn in the next couple of weeks, but I need the name of some pre-emergent to get started. I dont really want to bother with a spray on type. Anything you can suggest would be great.

There are granular pre-emergence products to discourage the Spring flush of crabgrass. Can buy at at John Deere Landscapes, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. After such freezes, you are in no hurry. Best wait until mid-Feb to apply, may get late freeze. In the meantime, go over your irrigation system as far as uniformity of coverage (3/4 – 1″) and only water when turf shows sign of wilt. (Not now after freeze damage, when it is in normal growth patterns) Currently, as dormant and brown as your turf must be, only need to water once every 10-14 days, if it rains, even longer. You won’t be able to water in back green. Any areas where you have exposed areas in sun and were lightly (less than 3/4″ – 1″) irrigated, be prepared to resod. Shallow roots didn’t likely survive penetrating freezes of past weeks. Don’t put pre-emergence down where you plan to resod…it’ll discorage penetration of roots from new sod. Good Luck. And remember this: A lawn can only perform and look as good as the upporting irrigation systems’ coverage, amount and use…promise you that!
