What is taking over my lawn?

I live in Sounthern MN and have a two acre Kentucky Bluegrass lawn. We were impatient and sodded a small area in the backyard while waiting for the seed to grow. Along with the sod came a horrible nuisance grass which has a wide green leaf and grows very quickly. It is always taller than the reat of the lawn and much greener (a brighter green with single blades). It was in patches in the sod and has now spread to various other sites. It is not crabgrass. What is this grass and how can we get rid of it without re-seeding the whole lawn? I have a photo, but not sure how to attach to this message. HELP!!

It sounds like we are fighting the same weed. I did some research tonight and it looks like we have Paspalum. The control for it is pulling the weed by hand or knife, or to spray with a chemical like Round-Up. Go to this link http://www.gardenet.com.au/turf/turfweeds/pas.htm and see if the picture of Paspalum mathces what you have in your yard. Good luck!

If it is Paspalum, you may also try MSMA. Even as a spot spray on grasses that aren’t tolerant. I feel it is a little easier than Round up on the turf.
My 2 cents………………….
