watering schedule for new lawn

We just planted a new St. Augustine lawn this week. Unfortunately, the cold temperatures (35 at the low) arrived here in Miami at the same time! The gardener recommended watering four times per week, but that seems excessive for January. Can anyone fill me in on this? Thanks.
