Used Wrong Scotts Weed & Feed on Floritam

Can someone please help me? I used the wrong Scotts Weed & Feed on my Floritam lawn and it has turned brown. Is there any help for it at this point? The whole lawn is not brown, mainly where I put the fertilizer. I live in Florida. Thank you.

Mary, I assume you used a product containing some kind of mixture of 2,4-D; mecoprop; and dicamba. When you should have used a product containing atrazine.

Since you did not indicate how long ago the application was done, or how much was applied, it is hard to predict what will happen. In my experience, the injury to St. Augustinegrass from these kind of products peaks at about 3-4 weeks, but recovery is more gradual, and you probably won’t know for 60 days if anything will recover.

There should be little residual weed killer in the soil, except for the dicamba portion which breaks down more slowly. But once the symptoms have occurred, it is probably too late to add anything to the soil to have much impact, for example, activated charcoal.

Thank you for your reply. I did use the Scotts Turf Builder w/Weed Control, with the 2,4-D, Mecoprop, and it has been about 4 weeks. The stolons still look a little green under there and I am hoping for recovery. I was hoping I could do something to correct the problem, but based on your reply seems the only thing I can do is wait and see. Thanks again.
