Turf turning yellow
Dale L. – posted 30 May 2003 16:02
I planted Pennington Enviroblend in the fall and am noticing some yellowing in my lawn. These patches are not circular or have any definate shape but they are up to 20′ in diameter and have green heathy grass mixed in with the dying grass. It is obvious that the yellowing grass is outnumbering the green grass by far. A closer look at the grass shows some small black spots or brown decayed spots and the grass seams to be dying from the top of the grass blade to the bottom. It may even have a brown horizontal leision between the green part of the blade and the dead part. My question is: Is this some kind of bug, fungus, or lack of fertilizer and how do i controll it before it takes over my 3 acre lawn?

Hi Dale,
My suggestion to you is to take a sample to your extension service along with a couple of pictures of the turf. You may also want to consider taking a soil sample as well. Doesn’t sound like insects, but without seeing it, it is tough to say.
Good luck,
Scott
