Topdressing Zoysia
boboplex – posted 13 June 2004 18:26
I have a Zoysia lawn that needs some minor fills and leveling. I have heard that topdressing the lawn with 1/4 inch of sand/soil mixture will do this. Is there a prefered ratio of soil to sand? Also is there a commercial mixture available that is known to work well on Zoysia? Any tips on where to buy and how to apply? Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

I disgree with soil for topdressing. The main reason is the weed seeds within the soil. I prefer a mixture of: 80% sterilized sand with 20% (by volume) Peatmoss. No weeds and does the trick rather nicely. Another suggestion would be steal a little from an area else where on your property. This will ensure that the soils are the same. weeds will become a problem though.
Good Luck……
