Thistle or what?

I have a marathon lawn from sod that is about 10 years old. Live in Southern California. My lawn, however, is being overun with what I was told is Thistle. If so, is there any solution to ridding my self of this pesty weed? Pictures I observed over the Internet seem to suggest that the weed is Bermuda (which is what my neighbor planted years ago.)Any one out there to offer advice? Thanks.

I just visited another forum (preventive maintenance) and saw pictures of the weed I am faced with. Replies indicate it is actually St. Aug and the description is long stem (lying flat within the sod) with broad leaf. Easily pulls out but I am desparately looking for a way to rid my lawn of this beast. When mowed, the brown shows through if the lawn is mowed close. I have instructed the gardener to move high and that hids the weed, but I’d like to get rid of it completely. I am desperate.
