St. Augustine Questions

I would appreciate any help you can give, my husband and I have struggled with this yard for 4 years and everyone has a different opinion–and all seem wrong.
First, the builder did a horrible job leveling the yard. Should we use sand or topsoil to fill in and can we do it at this time of year or will we kill the grass that gets covered?
Second, the majority of my backyard has a yellow tint to it and has seedlings growing (I think this is what they are called). I thought the seedlings grew because it needed mowing–this cannot be the case because the yard is not growing. ChemLawn was out 8 weeks ago with no results so we had them back out 5 weeks ago…the front is beautiful and green but the back shows no improvement. I THINK it is getting plenty of water. The yard gets sun all day. I also have a few areas, about 2×3 where the blades of grass are extremely yellow, not just tinted. What is this?
HELP!!
Thanks, Stefanie

Your lawn sounds like a major candidate for soil testing. It seems that it may lack nutrients that you cannot replace with a regular fertilization program. Soil testing will show you whats going on in the soil. Call your local Cooperative Extension. Post the results so we can all chime in…..
Good Luck………………………….

To answer your first question: Use whatever material is closest to your lawns makeup. If you have a sandy soil, use sand. Sandy loam or loamy sand use topsoil.
Just my 2 cents……………….
