St. Augustine on soil mixed with sand

I would like to know if it’s ok to plant St. Augustine grass on a soil mixed with sand. I ordered a truck load of soil, and when they dumped it, I noticed that it was mostly sand. They told me that the grass was still going to grow ok. Is this true?

Should work OK! 90% of St Augustine turf in NW Florida is on almost pure sand. You may have to fertilize and water a little more than you would on “good/real” soil, but it will grow.
