St. Augustine cultivar ID

I have been tryin to identify the cultivar of St. Aug grass I have in my lawn in Atlanta. It is an older lawn, possibly 20-30 years. The stolons are purple and recently it started sprouting seeds. The seed stalks are 4-5 inches long and have little purple and orange “fuzzies” sticking out and the seeds are all along the stalk. I thought most St. Aug cultivars were sterile. Does this help identify? I’m starting to think Floratam. Thanks, Jeff

I don’t believe you’ll have much luck trying to identify the cultivar visually. If you really want to know what you have contact your county extension agent or Master Gardner for advice/help. In Georgia you should be able to find a local number at the following WEB Site: http://128.192.110.246/sublist.cfm
I suspect your lawn is not Floratam as it has a poor tolerance to cold weather and I doubt it would have survived 20+ years as far north as Atlanta. [“as far north as Atlanta” sure sounds odd. Don’t often see the term north describing Atlanta]
