Our super at the course I play often refuses to cut the greens below 1/4 inch/The greens are some 328 and some 419 bermuda.I understand that in the hot summer heat you need to raise the cutting height but in the spring why could he not cut them to 5/32 where you could get a putt to the hole??

MY SUGGESTION WOULD BE TO ALLOW YOUR GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT MAKE THESE DECISIONS. THIS HEIGHT OF CUT IS PROBABLY THE LOWER SIDE OF THE SCALE FOR THE TYPES OF GRASSES YOU ARE DESCRIBING. IF YOU PREFER TO PLAY ON GRASS VERSUS DIRT I’D LET THE “SUPER” MAKE THE CALL. THESE HYBRIDS OF BERMUDA ARE VERY STRESSED THIS TIME OF YEAR AND THE SPRING IS NOT THE TIME TO PUT THE PLANT INTO A STRESSED CONDITION. BY THE WAY I’M A 20 YEAR VETERAN TO THE “SUPER” PROFESSION. WE APPRECIATE MEMBER AND GOLFER INPUT HOWEVER, IMHO THIS COULD BE A DETRIMENTAL SITUATION TO PLACE YOUR GREENS IN.
