Shade Tolerance of St. Augustine

I plugged Del Lago into a shady area in Houston, TX and it failed to grow, after careful prep and nurturing. I’ve read about Amerishade and other hybrids expected to be available soon. I am willing to tolerate and treat some of the side problems experienced thus far by Fla. users. How does the shade tolerance compare to Del Lago, which was best at the time I used it in early 2004?

different marketing brands within a turfgrass type won’t really change the characteristics of the grass. it’s still st. augustine. any grass needs 5-6 hours a day of sunlight. if it’s that shady you either need to prune or rethink the area as a landscape planting bed. there’s alot of sales and marketing that goes on with the turfgrass community, but you still can’t change the basics of plant physiology.
