Hi,

I am planning on planting a couple of sod runways, first 200′ by 4600′ and the second one 200′ by 2200′ South West corner of Georgia, will have irrigation.

Searching for types of Bermuda to lay without breaking the bank.

Experts say TifGrand but hard to get, very expensive and has to be sprigged.

Wide open to ideas.

Thank.s

just depends what look you’re going for.

I assume you aren’t wanting to sod 30 acres.

so you’re down to either sprigging a hybrid, or seeding common or an improved seeded type.

I am not concerned about a golf ball not rolling straight,More like a grass that would be used on a football field, can be kept short to reduce rolling resistance.

I have not found the cost of sprigging compared to seeding, It does sound expensive.

Thanks.

TifGrand is the first seed sterile hybrid Buermudagrass that thrives in full sun to 60-70% shade. It is grown only as a certified sod. It’s a new release from UGA and there was a limited supply this year, it’s first year in production. It has excellent wear tolerance and requires less water and fertilizer than other Bermudagrasses. More information and a list of licensed growers can be found at www.tifgrand.com.

You might look into Zeon or JaMur Zoysiagrass, also. These have excellent drought and wear tolerance, lower input requirements and are being utilized on golf courses and sports fields and can be mowed short. They are also only available as certified sod, not seed. More info at www.theturfgrassgroup.com.
