Reel mower… am I crazy

I live in Orlando and a 5200 sq lot. LOTS of Jamur Zoysia but I am so not happy with the results of a rotary and a commercial mower is tearing up my lawn.

Am I really going to kill myself trying to do a lot this size with a reel mower??????

Thanks

If you are up to it, I would definately go for it. Maybe look at getting the new Fiskars momentum reel mower, it supposed to be good for bigger yards.

I use a reel mower myself and I can definately say that it makes a big difference. See the link below of a photo I took last weekend that shows a direct half and half shot of my lawn and my neighbors lawn. Now, we both have the exact same Jamur Zoysia laid by the same sod company within a week of each other. He uses a rotary where the blade was just sharpened 2 weeks ago. My lawn is on the left his is on the right. What do you think?

Also, I’m in Tampa for reference.

The Fiskars is a really good mower. You’ll have to mow a little more often as the grass grows back quicker than it does if you were to use a rotary. Remember the push reel is good for basically only a weed-free and fairly level yard and one without a lot of junk (sticks, etc) to mow through. It does cut very nicely though. If you let the grass get too high you might end up having to go over it twice, but that’s the only issue I’ve encountered. It cuts better than a rotary for sure.
