pre-emergent herbicide for Bermuda?

I fought a war against crab grass, nutgrass ,as well as many other weeds last summer in my yard where I’m trying to establish a Bermuda turf.I used Trimec Plus with pretty good results late in the season but I hate to go through that again. I’d like to prevent the weeds this time if possible. Is there a recommended pre- emergent I should use this Spring? If there is one when should I apply it? I live in the southwest Arkansas/ Northeast Texas area. Thanks

i’ve always had good luck with 0-0-7. its a granular pre-emergent, and controls most broadleaf weeds. it works reel well for crabgrass also. it can be purchased at home depot. use the higher application rate specified on back. apply first dose in mid Feb. a second rate is recommended at same dose for heavily infested yards. i put it down the first of June. hope this helps.

i have only used the lesco brand. im sure they are all pretty much the same. i would apply the 0-0-7 no later than mid February. once the grass starts to “green-up”, i would use a fertilizer with high nitrogen, and pre-emergent combination. i have had great results with 28-2-5. the extra pre-em. will help prevent weeds a little longer. this SHOULD allow grass to fill in, and make your battle with weeds much less of an issue. WARNING: this stuff is messy, so wear clothes you dont mind getting dirty, and wash them seperate. the 0-0-7 and 28-2-5 has a yellowish powder covering it. make sure and irrigate well after the applications. i water in each zone for 25 to 30 min.hope this helps

I live in nw. la. probably not to farfrom you and I have used atrazine on mybermuda with real good results. It mustbe applied when bermuda is dormant as itwill kill it. Comes in 25lb. bag ,50 something dollars. Get mine from HelenaChemical in Gin City Ar.

Thanks to everyone for the information. I’ll give it a shot this Feb. Getting chemicals out as early as Feb has been a problem I have had in the past. I usually wait later than that and the seeds have already germinated.

Corn Meal Gluten (not corn meal) is said to be an excellent pre-emergent and delivers nitrogen toyour grass. It’s not harmful to human or pets, so apply it as often as needed.

Probably perfect for Bermuda as it spreads through runners fater than the seeds it produces.
