Poa in Bermuda

I have a Bermuda sodded lawn that is in its 1st heat season since it was laid last year in August (I am in South Carolina). The Bermuda went dorman pretty quickly after I moved in in September but I wanted a green lawn so I overseeded with a bag of pennington Annual ryegrass. Let me tell you…this seed SUCKS! big time. not only did the rye grass only take in a few spots, it also infested my lawn with Poa Annua. Now that the heat is starting to kill the rye and the poa, I am starting to see the Bemuda come into full greeness.
I know Poa seeds left in the soil will germinate in the fall or winter and again re-introduce my poa problem.
my question is…If I wait until the fall when my Bermuda goes dormant again…and if the Poa does indeed come back…can’t I just spray the Poa with Round-up, kill it and not worry about killing the dormant Bermuda?
please help me!

Yes, you can kill poa, and anything else that is green, with Round up. You must wait till the bermuda is dormant, totally! Another way to go may be to apply preemergence control in September to keep the poa out. That would also keep you from overseeding though. For better seed use Perennial ryegrass from Lesco, or UHS. Store bought, mass market seed is cheap, junky stuff(low end seed). Golf course’s get the best stuff. For more info go to ntep.org.
Best of Luck…….

This is an old thread, but felt like I wanted to add my 2 cents worth.
I am always very timid about applying round-up to any type of plant which you want to keep. another alternative to that would be a product called Manor. It does a very good job eliminating poa. You could also use MSMA or Drive.
I almost forgot Do Not over water. Floratan /Seville all strains of St. Augustine are suseptible to fungus from over…
I am from the north and it has taken me five yrs to learn and undertand seville lawns. No 1…
