Planting a new lawn in Southern California

I don’t know much about grass and seeding and all. I am trying to seed my backyard and have it actually grow and not die! I have 2 German Shepherds and most people stop me before I can get the words out and tell me to just cement my backyard. That is out of the question, I won’t have my dogs running around on cement! What kind of seed would hold up in Southern California with 2 big dogs? I understand that the parts where my dogs run the most will eventually die off, I’m ok with that. Any help, advise would be great!!! Thank you!!!!

If you choose to seed then you are probably limited to Bermuda or Zenith Zoysia. Either should do fine for you. Bermuda is hardier and grows faster. Zoysia is thicker and requires less mowing.
BTW, My thanks to you and your husband for choosing the USMC. You are both great Americans!
