over run by weeds in backyard

My front yard is perfect. I just sodded it and everything looks great. I don’t really want to sod the back because my dog will just mess it up making paths and what not.
However, I would like it to look a little better and it’s over run with weeds. It has clover, wild strawberries and a whole host of other weeds. It’s pretty bad. I would prefer not to use chemical methods because my dog goes back there. I could keep her inside and take her for longer walks if I did have to use chemicals.
I’ve tried some more organic approaches such as mowing more often (to lop the head of the weeds off), but some of the weeds like strawberries for instance are really low to the ground.
The grass is a mix of fescue and bermuda. Any suggestions on non chemical things I could try and also chemical things (since I’ll probably have to go that route anyway).
