New sod lawn problems

I live in Portland Oregon and laid sod in early October. The grass perked up right away and grew quickly. In mid-october, I cut the grass and fertilized with a recommended organic fertilizer. Heavy rains came days later and now all the once-beautiful green grass is VERY thin with large brown mud-spots. It is getting thinner and thinner – shade areas are completely devoid of grass and muddy. Do I need to topseed with a shade/sun mixture seed? Did cutting the grass too soon/short kill it?

Mowing probably wasn’t the problem……unless you let it grow too tall and mowed too short the first time. The bigger problem is probably poor drainage! Try seeding a grass called- ‘Supra nova Poa supina’ into the exsisting lawn. Its a grass that can handle wet, shady, conditions. Its available at- Outsidepride.com
