New Mclane mower cuts too short

New Mclane reel mower only cuts up to 1 1/2″ max. My el toro zoysia sod was just laid about 2 months ago. I’ve been cutting it down to 2 1/2″ with my rotary mower. But wanted a cleaner cut. The new mower scapled the yard. The pictures say it all. Should I return the new mower? I have 30 days from Sears. Will the grass always look like this after every mowing. Or will it fill in? Any advise will help.
