Lime Green St. Augustine
gkr – posted 31 July 2002 08:47
I live in the Houston area and I have St. Augustine grass. Over the last couple of weeks, areas of my yard are beginning to turn into a lime green color. We are very good at maintaining a healthy yard, but I do not know what is causing this to happen. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Based on you statement that you are, ” very good at maintaining a healthy yard ”, I assume you have fertilized sufficiently this year and that low/no iron is not the problem.Having said that; there are literally dozens of potential villains that cause St Augustinegrass “yellowing” as a symptom of their work: Bugs (chinch bugs, mole crickets, nematodes, etc), Soil pH, Disease (pythium root rot, take all root rot, etc). My advice is
1. Foliage feed (liquid spray) to see if you can reverse the action until you find the cause
2. Soil analysis
3. Examine turf, soil, and roots for bugs/disease. (Refer to Fl Lawn Handbook)http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/MENU_LH:LHLAWN
4. Consult county cooperative extension agent. You find him athttp://county-tx.tamu.edu/
