Light brown tips on Zoysia blades?

JohnnyC – posted 31 August 2007 06:43

Bought a house about 3 months ago that has established Zoysia so this is my first experience with it. Lately I’ve noticed the tips of the blades seem to be light brown in color. From what I’ve read so far thats the sign of a dull mower blade but I just replaced mine last week with a brand new one. I’m in MO, where its been hot, not much rain but I have been watering. Probably over-watering a little because the lawn wasn’t in the best shape when we moved in. I aerated a month ago and it really responded well. Just began noticing this these light brown tips last week. Any ideas or suggestions?

I know the blade is new, but frequently they aren’treally sharp. You might pull it off and give it a filing with a Mill Bastard File. When it looks like it’d cut steakit’s right for Zoysia. I sharpen my blade twice a year.If you have a really fine Zoysia like Emerald you may have to switch to a Reel Mower.HTH
