Laying St Augustine

I have read some good stuff and I agree with many of the ideas. I have a question to pose to the readers. Is there anything gained by mixing in some Nitrogen fertilize with your top soil prior to laying in the St Augustine sod?? Not a large amount of Nitogen is the way I would intend to proceed. Is there any gain in doing this? I would like to read some opinions. Thanks

I added a small amount of fertilizer to my lawn when I plugged in empress zoysia. The lawn did well.
I did not add any fertilizer when I plugged in some Empire zoysia in my new yard. It is doing about as well.
I don’t really think there is any gain to adding it to the soil. And you really should not add to much fertilizer to new sod because it causes top growth which can stress the roots.
I would focus on adding potasium to encourage deeper roots and not mix nitrogen into the turf.

I would avoid Chemical forms of Nitrogen which can burn roots. Try instead an organic source such as Milorganite.
