Laying sod in the rain
Zero – posted 16 February 2005 09:05
Unbeknownest to me (a landscape contractor) I had a sod grower, who shall remain nameless, deliver 6 1/2 pallets of fescue sod in the pouring rain with expectations of extremely heavy rains for the next several days. I called inquire and they said more or less, “We’ll, sometimes you just have to work in the rain!”
Anybody have any thoughts on this? Oh, this is southern CA.

If one of our customers orders sod,we usually make him take if a weather problem develops. However,if possible we will help by relocating to another, drier customer. We have an understanding up front,if ordered, you will take delivery. No real problems at our farm in that respect.

You’ll need sod staples if your laying it on uneven ground or slopes. As a course builder, more often than not we don’t get to choose when to order or not. Rain hail or shine when it’s time to go down, it’s time to go down. Same for seed or sod in our case. I have no problem laying sod in the rain as it stops my prepared fairways from eroding away. Also I get good quality and free irrigating.
