Laying Bermuda over on existing yard

My house was built 6 years ago and loke most around here, the back yard was not sodded. I am finally planning to lay sod but want to make sure I do it right and don’t waste my money by laying it and letting it die. Currently, my back yard has a generic rye type grass growing that is not thick at all. I have heard lots of different ways to do this and want to get some advice from this forum. I was planning on spraying the yard with Round-Up and letting it sit for a couple of days, and then tilling up the entire yard. Then I planned to level the dirt, put down some lime and mayby some 2.1.1 fertilizer, and lay my sod. Does anyone have any better suggestions for me? It is a small yard of only about 2,400 sq. feet.Thanks in advance!Drew

My guess would be that you’d want to put something organic on top before you lay the sod, but I’m not an expert. What I’d do (unless someone told me not to) is get a dumptruck full of topsoil or manure and spread that stuff around and then lay the sod on top.

My other opinion is that you’d probably want to fertilize on top of the sod instead of underneath? But I don’t know . . .

EDIT: why are you sodding instead of seeding? this time of year is perfect for seeding if you can water the lawn enough . . . princess 77 and bermuda triangle grass seed is every bit the quality of sod and a helluva lot cheaper.

level DO NOT fert the soil

lay your sod, then Water like a mother

onc your rooted, then mow, then fert, high levels of N,
