lawn cover to prevent dog damage

We are babysitting two dogs for the winter. I would like to cover my back yard lawn with inexpensive tarps or plastic or something to prevent the grass from being killed by the dogs. What would anyone suggest? Critter ridder just doesn’t cut it! We live in Canada so the lawn is frozen but at this time there is little to no snow cover. Thanks!

Are you trying to prevent mechanical damage, e.g., digging, or to prevent chemical damage, e.g., feces? Winter tarps can potentially smother the grass and may give the dogs another playful challenge. I haven’t lived where there was snow for e0 years.
