Is St augustine right for me

I live in SoCal. I have a small yard that that my dog has destroyed for various reasons. I currently have what is left of my fescue. The way my house sits causes nearly complete shade in the winter and 100% full sun from March to October. I have been researching lawns that have a high wear tolerance and keep coming back to St Augustine for wear and shade. I’d appreciate any and all opinions.
